Monday Musings: Finding Calm in the Chaos

Finding Calm in the Chaos

Welcome to another Monday. Hopefully you’re feeling refreshed, motivated, ready to take on another week! And if not, that’s okay. Take your time. Take it easy. Take lots of deep breaths.

I’ve been feeling pretty anxious lately, which is not a huge surprise given the state of the world, the state of live music, and various personal things. Maybe you’ve felt a twinge of something similar. In order to combat that constant vague sense of dread, I find myself going back to basics. Food, water, shelter. Comfort. Growth. Love. I’m spending more time checking in on our vegetable garden, smelling flowers, staring at the different types of grass that grow intertwined together. Marveling at the constant growth of the earth and how we are supported by it. I’m baking - bread, crackers, fruit crumbles. I swore I would never bake - too precise for someone who doesn’t like rules. But here we are. Flour, water, salt, time - creation within the palm of my hands, in the span of 24 hours. Michael and I are cozying up our home, we’re cooking, we’re going on walks together.

In the midst of so much chaos, we are constantly reaching out to calm. Sometimes it’s difficult to grasp, but once we do, we hold on tightly.

Video of the week: An 8 year old version of "Oh Shenandoah", sung on the banks of the river itself. Close your eyes for a few minutes and breathe in some calm. <3

P.S. We have both been taking great comfort in doing short meditations via the Headspace app. If you are unemployed, Headspace is offering a full year of membership for free - check it out here.

As always, thank you for being here with us. May your week be filled with peace.
